PADAYON, RONDALLA
PADAYON RONDALLA is a performing group under the Department of Musicology of the UP College of Music. Established in July 2016, Padayon Rondalla was formed by a group of friends who share a love for rondalla music. "Padayon", a Visayan term meaning "to go on" or "continue" embodies the group's mission to continue their passion for rondalla music and vision to bring its music all over the world. The group is composed of music educators, composers, and performers from the University of the Philippines College of Music, each with different backgrounds in music.
The group’s repertoire includes Philippine folk songs, pop songs and foreign classical music. Now, the group aims to promote Philippine rondalla not just to other countries but also to the Filipino community by performing in schools, outreaches and music festivals.
In July to August 2016, they performed in Yilan International Children's Folklore and Folkgame Festival in Yilan, Taiwan, and October the same year, was again invited to perform in Taiwan for the Chen Ding Nan Memorial Concert.
The group participated in the 2018 China-ASEAN Music Festival held in Nanning, Guangxi, China from May 29 to June 4, attended by composers, musicians and ensembles from countries within and outside Asia. Padayon Rondalla represented the University of the Philippines College of Music alongside other performing groups UP Tugtugang Musika Asyatika and UP Dance Company.
Recently, the group also participated in the 5th International Plucked String Festival: Cuerdas Sang Pagkahiliusa held from November 3 to 11, 2018 in Silay City, Negros Occidental, Philippines. They performed alongside other rondalla groups and plucked string ensembles from around the world.
